Q: You played in a ton of bands while attending the University of Delaware in the early 1980’s- the Zippers, Christian Snipers, the Boogie Boys, Ellen Leibowitz’s jazz band, and of course Rockett 88- How did you develop your craft as a live performer?

WE ROCKED!

“Before I joined Rockett 88 I had played a few parties with my two roommates at the time, Brad Fish and Brian O'Neill, and we rocked! We called ourselves the Boogie Boys. The first party we played was INSANE, and the effect we had on the crowd showed me that blues music can really incorporate the best of many genres, including rock 'n' roll, and even punk rock! Those few parties showed me that I could front a trio and make it work.

In Rockett 88 I learned a lot from the leader, Mark Kenneally, also known as Dr. Harmonica, or Doc Harp. I learned how to get jobs and how to work a crowd, which are huge lessons. When my time with Mark's band was over I thought, OK, I'm a pro and I'm pretty good... what's next? I decided I'd try to become famous. I saw what Doc Harp did with Rockett 88 and thought that I could do the same thing.”
