The Band...interview with Chris Day

New York City based rock musician, Chris Day talks about what else……BANDS……the Strokes, Blow Up, Ten Heads High, and of course Tommy Conwell and the Young Rumblers.  “When you are in a band you really have a strong interaction with the other members. You have the unspoken language of music and friendship.”

Q: Have you seen the Strokes?

Chris Day:

“Well, I rehearse in New York at a place called the Music Building, which is a bunch of warehouse rooms that all the bands rent out. The Strokes rehearse in that building as well. I see them all the time but I have actually never seen them play live. I have heard them on the radio, and I like them! I think they are cool! We (Young Rumblers) didn’t have nationwide hype. They have international hype! Sometimes a band comes out of nowhere and gets a lot of attention! You have seen that over the years with a lot of bands.”

Q: Other NYC bands that you like?

Chris Day:

“There is a band called the Blow Up and they are cool. They have good songs. There is another band called Ten Heads High. We have played a bunch of shows with them. We share nights at clubs. Those are the two that I would say to keep an eye on. They are good bands.”

New York’s local music scene reads like Philadelphia in the late 1980’s- Breakout rock bands, packed rock clubs, and happily hunting A&R rock-Executives. “People are taking chances across the board, and as a result, a lot of the bands we are talking about really are high-caliber. There are more good to great bands in New York now than there have been since the mid-to-late eighties,” according to Rolling Stone music editor Joe Levy.
