Let Me Luv u Too! by Mario Martin

Guitarist/songwriter- Javier Hernández Boni- accidentally stumbled across TCYR's Guitar Trouble in the early 1990’s and subsequently took the music to Let Me Love You Too and recorded Por Que No? for his first solo record.  Sounds pretty vanilla, except for the fact that Boni is from Spain and is guitarist for one of Europe ’s biggest classic rock bands.  Read this transcontinental story prepared by Mario Martin, manager of Barricada.

Javier Hernández Boni (nothing to do with U-2 or the world saver Bono!) is the rhythm guitarist and 50% singer of BARRICADA, a Spanish rock and roll band that has been together since 1982.  Boni is a shy guy, seems quite and calm. Everything changes when he is playing live, when he becomes a savage guitar player!  Boni’s guitar influences include Rory Gallagher, Slade, Sisters of Mercy, The Recovers, Sex Pistols, & The Clash.

In 1992 Boni saved time to go into studio and record "Peligroso Animal de Compañía,” (translated as DANGEROUS PET) being helped by a couple of friends and his brother playing drums, as well as two Barricada members.  This was a personal experience for BONi, in order to play with close friends and his brother. If you listen to his record and later a barricada cd you can identify his personal sound, fulltime in his record and as a part of a big machine at Barricada.

Boni wrote all the lyrics on Dangerous Pet, but two of them: One, written by Barricada´s other lead singer, Enrique Villarreal, aka "drogas" (drugs), and a second one based on a song written and performed by...Tommy Conwell, "Let Me Love You Too". For some reason, Boni seemed to like that song so much as to be the chosen for his unique personal album. The song was actually discovered by Boni’s brother.  Today, it is very common for Spanish recording artists to record cover versions of very popular songs.  Boni decided to take the risk of recording a cover version of a song not known at all in Spain. So, he took the music and a few part of the lyric and recorded "Por Que No? –(translate it as "Why Now?”)

His record "Peligroso animal de compañía" ("Dangerous Pet") was just a personal success; he never could make a tour with it, because his drum player and brother had an accident and broke a hand. Boni’s dream was to record the album, and if it wasn’t possible to play with his brother, he didn’t mind not to make shows. His success was to record it.  Nowadays Boni still records and plays with Barricada, harder and louder than never! Next year barricada will be 25 years old!
